A Bird & a Boy

Posted in News by Nneoma Ulu on December 19, 2011

Gisele is the new face for Givenchy’s Spring/Summer 2012 ad. Gisele’s beauty shines through the dark gloomy Twilight-esque feel. Ricardo Tisci described the atmosphere as “the expression of a love story between a surfer and a mermaid.” Love the eeriness of this and that there is no sun in a spring/summer ad.

Chanel have confirmed that punk rock chick, Alice Dellal, is the new face of its Boy Chanel handbag collection. As both model and musician, she is Karl’s perfect Chanel girl. Alice shares my love for nose rings and shaved heads, her and Chanel are a match made in heaven, for me.

I so want to dislike Blake Lively but I just can’t. This outfit from  Gucci Cruise 2012 is just perfection and what perfect pins…

Oh no she didn’t: Fergie’s fashion faux pas

Posted in Celebrity Style by Nneoma Ulu on December 11, 2011

We’ve all been there, struggling to zip up that party dress we bought a year ago that was a perfect fit at the time but is just a tad bit too tight now. Fergie, of Black Eyed Peas fame, has a different approach to this than the rest of us… whose natural reaction would be to hit the gym, slow down on the mince pies and get a new dress for the occasion. Fergie wore the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Felix the Cat print dress from the Spring/Summer 2012  collection with the zip undone and a black piece of fabric to disguise the ill-fitting dress to In Style‘s A Night Of Firsts event in L.A.

Now I’m not one to put celebrities on blast. In fact, I usually celebrate their fashion choices and often take inspiration from them. However, I definitely cannot let this one slide. Maybe it’s because I’m still reeling from how bad the movie New Year’s Eve was last night with Fergie’s hottie hubby, Josh Duhamel but this is plain wrong. There seems to be no logical explanation as to why this would be a good idea….

Ski chic

Posted in My wardrobe by Nneoma Ulu on December 7, 2011

The countdown to my February ski trip is on and that can only mean one thing. Ski chic – because a girl has gotta look hot on the slopes. First task – a jacket that will do the job of keeping me warm and could potentially be used when I’m back in London. It boils down the the question of practical or cool.

Is it stylish and practical waterproofs from Henri Lloyd?

Or leopard print cool from Toppers?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

There is nothing worse than wet feet

Posted in Accessories, Inspiration by Nneoma Ulu on December 4, 2011

I hate having wet feet and sadly living in rainy London lends itself to this ongoing problem. The only good thing about it though, is that every winter, a pair of boots must be found to combat the problem triggering the start of the search for my perfect winter boot. Every year, I begin with the same goal – to have winter-long romance with a good-looking pair of boots that can withstand the rain and snow. I threw out the idea of the humble ballet pump being capable of combatting the accidental stepping in puddle moments a few years back, after being stung one time too many and ending in the untimely death of a beloved pair of Miu Mius (don’t ask). Last year, a pair of humble vintage boots served me well during the big freeze and a very wet spring and so this year as our Indian summer seems to finally be coming to an end, my eyes are peeled for a pair that can rise to the challenge. I’ve been taking inspiration from some new sources including scouring women’s shoes at Bank Fashion as well as the usual sources – The SartorialistVanessa JackmanFacehunter and have some ideas… but have not yet landed on the winner. Watch this space for the final contenders. In the mean time, here is  some of my inspiration…

Floral boots could work but lack the versatility I need. It’s all in the details… check, florals, leather.

Vintage looking flat chelsea boots. Working the minimalist look.

Tough girl chic. Love it.

1st December

Posted in Cool stuff by Nneoma Ulu on December 1, 2011

It’s the 1st of the month and quite frankly this is only of importance because we’re counting down to Christmas. So imagine my glee when I received a link to the LOVE magazine advent calendar, with Lindsey Wixson singing Jingle Bells for the 1st December. The perfect antidote to the absence of a Cadbury’s chocolate. Let the countdown to Christmas begin…
