Brrrr… it’s cold outside. Well, it isn’t actually cold where I am at the moment (in Pennsylvania, visiting family), in fact its like summer here. I wasn’t planning on it being warm so I packed up a bunch of winter woollies and I’m finding myself lounging around in almost underwear to keep cool. But I do know that in London its freezing and there is nothing like a good bit of knitwear to keep you warm and that is exactly why Global Cool is convincing fashionistas everywhere to turn down the heat and turn up the style. Global Cool is a green lifestyle organisation that inspires people to think differently and live differently. This winter, they are hoping that rather than reach for the temperature dial and crack up the heat, that we reach for our favourite jumper instead and use less energy at home.
They don’t just want us to do it all by ourselves! Global Cool have kindly developed this simple how-to guide that you can use to transform your old favourite jumper into something all shiny and new. You can download the full style guide here.
Gemma Cairney, DJ and stylist, is leading the charge and held a workshop at the recent Britain’s Next Top Model Live that you can check out here:
And if all of that hasn’t convinced you, the lovely people at Global Cool are giving you the chance to win £100 worth of Topshop vouchers simply by showing off your favourite jumper. To enter, all you need to do is upload a photo of yourself looking fabulous and warm in your jumper here by 10am on Thursday 28th November. Two runners up will win £25 worth of vouchers and the winners will be decided by a guest judge and this week, yours truly, is one of the guest judges. Try your luck, you just might win!
I love it when a plan comes together. Recently, Derek Lam expressed his desire to create a diffusion line – something more affordable than his main line collection. It looks like his wish was granted. Lam will create an exclusive capsule collection for eBay that will show at New York Fashion Week next February. But the fun doesn’t stop there… Lam and eBay are giving power to the people. When the collection is unveiled, anyone will be able to vote immediately online for the looks they want to go into production. The collection will then be available for purchase on eBay in spring/summer 2011.
It’s exciting to see designers pushing the boundaries with collaborations – it’s not enough to plonk an affordable line in a high street store and hope for the best. Lam is cleverly empowering his followers and bypassing the problem of knowing how many units to put into production by allowing people to vote for their favourite looks. It will also be a satisfying process for customers who will see their favourite looks go from the runway straight to their eBay cart. Can’t wait!
This is one that I’m not going to shed a tear over. Kate Moss’ fourteenth and final collection for Topshop will hit the stores on November 2nd. Here are some shots of the collection… looks great in print and fourteen collections later, you and I all know it’ll look crap in real life. Wonder whether the rumours about Phillip Green’s daughter will come true.
Now I’m not big on dressing up as most of my friends know. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s more that I know how bad I look when I try. Despite my efforts to avoid it, the Halloween season is here and the invites are rolling in. The compromise for someone like me, who isn’t too keen on transforming into the latest Disney character or scrambling to find an outfit that doesn’t look like it was bought from a sex shop, is a mask. Simple, chic and easy to execute. So I’m taking inspiration from French Vogue’s 90th anniversary masquerade ball…

I love a good collaboration and it doesn’t get much better than this. Lulu Kennedy, has teamed up with some of London’s most exciting talent to create a 10 piece collection of capsule dresses to mark the 10th year of Fashion East, featuring the work of Gareth Pugh, Louise Gray, Richard Nicoll and Holly Fulton – all Fashion East alumni. The collection, Lulu & Co, features her favourite pieces shown on the catwalk from the past 10 years.
The collection will be available at matchesfashion.com from November 1st.
I am heading to New York tomorrow. An unexpected but necessary trip. I won’t have much time to get around city but just being there is enough. Concrete jungle where dreams are made of…
