I don’t want to be cool, I want to be fashion

Posted in Girl Crush by Nneoma Ulu on June 22, 2010

This is clearly the mantra of a style icon. Namely Anna Dello Russo, Fashion Director at Vogue Nippon.

There is something sophisticated and sexy about the way the lace dress hugs her perfect figure. There is nothing slutty or trashy about this. It’s just pure unadulterated fashion at its finest and I’m jealous. Jealous that I don’t have the body to pull off wearing a lace dress with nothing but red underwear underneath. Jealous that getting on the tube in this number would be considered socially unacceptable and jealous that my cankles simply couldn’t handle the delicacy of those Leopard print YSL shoes that compliment the dress exquisitely.

Watch out for the airbrushing: Madonna is back for D&G

Here is a preview of Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2010 ad campaign shot by Steven Klein and featuring her Madgesty herself. She seems to have escaped the obligatory Louis Vuitton airbrushing and is looking reminiscent of her Evita days. Let’s just say black and white really suits her. Looking forward to checking out the full campaign.

Balenciaga Resort 2011

Bright colours + cool prints x sunshine = Happy Summer days!

A little bit of imagination…

Posted in Fashion by Nneoma Ulu on June 8, 2010

For a second, imagine you were rich. Really rich, so rich you didn’t have to work. (Stick with it… I know youre probably at your desk now, wishing you didn’t have to be). Now think what you’d be doing in the summertime. Travelling of course! There would probably be a yacht involved, late night parties with your celebrity friends, plus the obligatory sand and sea… in fact you’d probably cruise all around the Mediterranean party islands P.Diddy style.

Now I know what you’re thinking… what would I wear? Well, no need to worry, those designers have got you all covered. You’d be wearing Cruise 2010 silly! For those of you whose reality does not include yachting and partying around the Mediterranean, Cruise (or Resort as our friends over the pond like to call it) is what comes in between the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections. Traditionally, it was meant for the more wealthy customer who needed a wardrobe suitable for vacationing around the world. These days, designers are taking Cruise much more seriously these days as they get that the real fashionistas use these pieces to transition from Summer to Autumn whilst still being bang on trend. Enter Erin Fetherston Cruise 2010.

Erin’s Cruise collection reads like the perfect capsule summer wardrobe. Subtle nudes, shocking reds and a mix of girly dresses and structured tailoring that might make you consider taking a cruise around the Mediterranean to justify purchasing.

Cruise is no less expensive than main lines from designers but if you’re looking to pick up something special, the collections are well worth a look.

Target hits the spot again with Mulberry

Posted in News by Nneoma Ulu on June 8, 2010

The people at Target, famous American discount store, have really outdone themselves this time. In the past, they’ve pulled in fashion heavyweights from Luella to Proenza Schouler, to Anya Hindmarch and the late great Alexander McQueen to design limited collections at prices more associated with sale shopping than designer wares. Now Target have announced that they will be teaming up with luxury British handbag and accessories brand Mulberry. According to The Cut, “the line will hit Target.com and most Target stores on October 10 and be available through December 24”.

I managed to score a bag from the Anya Hindmarch x Target line and we were inseparable for a long time. I’m hoping this will be the same.

Fingers and toes crossed that this partnership will not result in poor quality (remember of Jimmy Choo x H&M). This is definitely worth planning a trip to NYC for. Mulberry now what they are doing and following the collaboration with it girl, Alexa Chung, the only way is up… or down (in price) in this case.  I need images of this as soon as they are leaked!

Ready for Autumn/Winter thanks to Givenchy

Posted in Ad campaign by Nneoma Ulu on June 7, 2010

Sometimes images are more powerful than words. Case in point, Givenchy’s new ad campaign.

Featuring the amazing trio of Malgosia Bela, Mariacarla Boscono and Catherine McNeil, the campaign is once again lensed by the duo of Mert & Marcus. No more sunshine needed. Just cold, black opague tights and a Givenchy bag.

Enough Bang, let’s get Nycked

Posted in News by Nneoma Ulu on June 7, 2010

Forget Marc Jacob’s new mens fragrance Bang. And even that raunchy ad campaign showing off his ripped and tatted up bod that had all the girls wishing he wasn’t into guys…

Attention has now moved from him to his boyfriend, Lorenzo Martone, who has decided to dip his fashionable toes into the world of designing. He’s teamed up with jewellery designer Jules Kim to create a swimwear label called Nycked and, inspired by his Brazilian background – basically it’s all about the booty.

According to Lorenzo, “swim seems to be dominated by an L.A. aesthetic, and our collection brings a New York attitude to it.” What makes it New York? Big bows that looks like it was made of discarded trash bags; a silver, textured bikini with some serious padding; and a swimsuit with an un-done bow-tie neckline that we feel like Tim Gunn might deem a “first-year fashion school project.”

It’s not the most amazing swimwear collection but my view is – it’s designed by a hot gay Brazilian guy. He clearly knows what other men would like to see women wearing, so it’s worth a try!
