Mulberry Resort 2012

Posted in Resort 2012 by Nneoma Ulu on June 18, 2011

I had a brunch with a friend from Singapore who’d been to Brighton beach for the first time this week. He said “it had pebbles, I’d never seen that before” – his subtle way of saying “get me out of this place and back to the idyllic white sand and clear blue sea beaches of South-East Asia that I’m used to”.  Pebbly beaches, bad weather and a sizeable portion of fish and chips pretty much sum up the British seaside. That is not the case for Mulberry, however, as their Resort 2012 collection takes inspiration from the quintessential 1970s British seaside. The result – cute prints, wearable separates and the perfect denim wash for summer. I want it all.

Edie: A new addition to the Mulberry family

Posted in Spring/Summer 2011 by Nneoma Ulu on November 17, 2010

If you’re anything like me, by now, you’ve seen the Mulberry Alexa, gone to visit it in your nearest Mulberry store or large department store. Written it down on your summer wishlist. Thought that you wanted the large tan version then decided on the black leopard print version and have fingers and toes crossed that Santa or boyfriend will deliver it on Christmas Day.  If you are anything like me, you now will have a new dilemma. Mulberry have launched their pre-Spring/Summer2011 collection with an addition to the family – Edie

It is inspired by and named after ‘Little Edie’, the star of the Grey Gardens documentary and film of the same name. The Edie is a hybrid of the iconic Bayswater and Alexa styles.

This reminds me of the customized Roxanne bag Alexa Chung appeared with a couple of years back, that probably started Mulberry’s love affair with her.

Remarkable resemblance, non? They call it the Edie but they really mean the Alexa part 2. Whether its Alexa or Edie, I know one thing for sure and that is, I want it. Sad but true.

Target hits the spot again with Mulberry

Posted in News by Nneoma Ulu on June 8, 2010

The people at Target, famous American discount store, have really outdone themselves this time. In the past, they’ve pulled in fashion heavyweights from Luella to Proenza Schouler, to Anya Hindmarch and the late great Alexander McQueen to design limited collections at prices more associated with sale shopping than designer wares. Now Target have announced that they will be teaming up with luxury British handbag and accessories brand Mulberry. According to The Cut, “the line will hit Target.com and most Target stores on October 10 and be available through December 24”.

I managed to score a bag from the Anya Hindmarch x Target line and we were inseparable for a long time. I’m hoping this will be the same.

Fingers and toes crossed that this partnership will not result in poor quality (remember of Jimmy Choo x H&M). This is definitely worth planning a trip to NYC for. Mulberry now what they are doing and following the collaboration with it girl, Alexa Chung, the only way is up… or down (in price) in this case.  I need images of this as soon as they are leaked!

Wishlist: Mulberry’s ‘Alexa’ bag

Posted in Uncategorized by Nneoma Ulu on December 14, 2009

News of Alexa Chung’s MTV show, It’s On With Alexa Chung, being cancelled has been doing the rounds for the past few days. Now, whilst I don’t care much for her hosting or interviewing skills, there is no doubt that she is has emerged as a style icon in recent times. She totally sums up the effortless London girl chic look.

All this talk of Alexa teamed with the fact I’m in Christmas-wishlist-mode made me remember THAT bag! The ‘Alexa’ bag by Mulberry is an updated version of The Bayswater inspired by Chung herself (though she played no part in the design process….). I want this bag now! It will be available in January and it seems that waiting lists have already started….

She is the perfect fit for Mulberry, as she clearly loves the brand, often pictured with a trusty Roxanne or Bayswater. Mulberry probably sat up and paid attention when she was snapped with a customized Mulberry Roxanne –  she swapped the strap to a vintage Tyrolean-style guitar strap. It was such a simple change that had everybody thinking why hadn’t I thought of that.

The only thing I’m thinking is whether I should get the Alexa in classic oak or patent black? Decisions, decisions, decisions.
