NYFW // Peter Som S/S 12

Posted in Spring/Summer 2012 by Nneoma Ulu on September 10, 2011

It’s New York Fashion week and the start of fashion month. Exciting times. I’ve been trawling through style.com‘s extensive coverage of the shows (highly recommended during fashion month) and I’m loving Peter Som’s collection. Flowers and colour blocking seem here to stay but Som’s interpretation is not too girly and teamed with the seemingly perfect tee and the red Charlotte Olympia loafers? Yes, please.

Notable at NYFW: Peter Som

There is always noise about the designers that we expect to hear about – Marc Jacobs, Philip Lim, etc. Peter Som is a little less well-known and has had a bumpy ride over the years including losing financial backing. But his Spring/Summer 2010 collection, is reinstating his place as an accomplished and talented designer. The mixture of colour and textures  sets Peter Som’s collection apart from many others. Teaming simple separates in a wearable way, think tweeds and animal prints (it really works, trust me). For Som it was all about “seasonless dressing” and I think that this thinking could be the way forward especially in these recsession times. Peter Som is definitely one to watch. As they say what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.

These pictures are reminiscent of a TopShop ad campaign. I’m sure they’ll be stealing tips from Som.
