Paris Fashion Week: The power shoulder remains at Balmain
There are a number of designers that should be in the wardrobe of every discerning rock chick. Balmain is one of them and all eyes were on Balmain yesterday in Paris for their Spring/Summer 2010 offering. From previous collections, Balmain has single-handedly brought back the power shoulder with a modern and edgy twist. The power shoulder has managed to successfully infiltrate the high street everywhere from Primark to Zara. But with popularity comes boredom in the world of fashion and according to some, like popular fashion blogger, fashionista, the backlash has started; but on the runway yesterday, the power shoulder was still very much visible. Christophe Decarnin went a long way to show that he was no one trick pony with hot party dresses and exposed shoulders balancing the ever popular power shoulder, though it all felt a bit much of the same.
I absolutely loved the simplicity of the make up and the hair at the show. It perfectly offset the hardness of the colours and fabrics and brought an added air of femininity to the military theme.
I also have to mention the great music choice – The Sugarhill Gang’s Rappers Delight. Loved it!
