Bomber jackets are back. Yes, you heard it here. But this time, they are colourful with prints. I’m on the hunt for the perfect one and this week I’m taking inspiration from this combo as snapped by Tamu McPherson – the pleated maxi dress and printed bomber. Oh, the excitement. I can hardly contain myself.

Dreaming of Spring

Jessica Alba is my unlikely fashion hero today. I’ve never really paid much attention to her style – she plays it safe and always goes for the “pretty” look but this outfit could be the start of great things. The perfect combination of a bright orange Acne jumper, floral ankle grazers and that gorgeous Doo.Ri coat, ideal for spring. I can’t wait till it starts warming up so I can ditch the opaque tights and wear some floral ankle grazers like Jessica’s and that coat is firmly on my wish list.

Jessica Alba you are now on my radar….

2012 Golden Globes: Who judges the judges?

It’s awards season and the best and worst dressed lists are doing the rounds following the Golden Globes. There were some notable wins (Charlize Theron, Michelle Williams, Lea Michele) and some surprising disappointments (Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar) but rather than the usual round-up of who looked hot and who didn’t, my Golden Globes spotlight falls on two well known fashion commentators – Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne. Now, I’m an avid watcher of E! Entertainment’s Fashion Police led by the harsh yet hilarious Joan Rivers with her band of ~~questionably~~ stylish co-hosts – Kelly, Giuliana and the dashing George Kostiopoulos and I pay particular attention during awards season to catch their honest and candid reviews of the red carpet victors and losers. However, it strikes me that two of her panel often get it so wrong when it comes to dressing for the red carpet…

Giuliana always goes for floor length numbers that accentuate her long, lean frame which works for her. Sadly, this dress looks like she’s wearing a neck brace… and the heavy-looking lace detail seems just a little bit much for her slight frame.

Oh Kelly, what saddens me about this attempt is the potential. The colour of her custom-made Zac Posen number is perfect for the red carpet but there is something so unflattering about the fabric and the anglular silhouette that just doesn’t work. And Kelly, that purple/grey rinse in your hair is just not working. Fingers crossed these two get it right for the upcoming Academy Awards… or they are at serious risk or losing their fashion credentials.

Is it me or is it getting colder outside? I’m loving Hanneli’s take on winter dressing as she embraces Spring’s pastels trend teaming it up with winter whites, a pop of colour and some tough girl boots. Dreamy.

These tweens are definitely ones to watch.

Company Magazine: A blogger love-in?

Alexa Chung covers the ‘new look’ February 2012 issue of Company magazine and whilst she looks as great as ever, it is the new layout of the magazine itself that caught my eye.

I picked up a handbag-sized copy and devoured it pretty quickly on my train ride home, with it’s great layout and it’s personal feel. The pages are packed with fashion picks from Company’s fashion team but also the magazine’s readers, which gives it a really personal feel. It features bloggers throughout with a couple of blogger specific features (including the one below) but interestingly, it almost feels like a blog. It’s full of street style inspiration and high street suggestions for updating your wardrobe.

Company’s love for bloggers doesn’t end with the mag but also extends online, with their upcoming Style Blogger Awards proving that the mag loves bloggers just as much as bloggers love the mag.

Company mag has always been one of the magazines that I pick up occasionally but the new layout and blogger friendly content has me hooked. I’m definitely a Company girl!

A Beckham midweek pick-me-up

I don’t know about you but this week is dragging. In comparison to the joyous festive fun that was had last week, this week sucks. The reality of being back at work, the severe dip in temperature outside and the annoying overcrowding on public transport is enough to send anyone into severe depression. So thank you to David Beckham (and photographer Alasdair McLellan) for this wonderful ad campaign for your range, Bodywear (posh for underwear), hitting stores and hm.com next month.

Every year around this time, I remember why gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins. Too much food, too much alcohol and just a little too much enjoyment has been the order of this festive period but it will be coming to end with my return to work on Tuesday. So, like most people, I am planning to make some small changes to make 2012 a tad bit better than 2011. Here are some thoughts taking inspiration from the Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaigns…

1. Take on an Olympic sport… or at least get myself to yoga at least once a week

Inspired by the seemingly effortless gymnastics in Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaign, oh and the Olympics coming to London this summer, it may be time for a bit of sport in my life. Or at least just committing to attend yoga at least once a week. Hello bikini bod…

2. Spend more time with my family

My family portrait may not really play out like that of the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2012 below but there is nothing like family, so this year I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family.

3. Master the smokey eye once and for all

Oh Gucci, please show me the way. The perfect smokey eye with a sublime nude lip. This will be my look of 2012.

4. Treat myself to an exotic beach holiday

I’m thinking Bali, Langkawi or somewhere in the Philippines so I can channel Gisele’s Salvatore Ferragamo look.

5. Be fabulous everyday

Well, a girl can dream can’t she… as inspired by Gisele’s stunning Versace Spring/Summer 2012.

A Bird & a Boy

Gisele is the new face for Givenchy’s Spring/Summer 2012 ad. Gisele’s beauty shines through the dark gloomy Twilight-esque feel. Ricardo Tisci described the atmosphere as “the expression of a love story between a surfer and a mermaid.” Love the eeriness of this and that there is no sun in a spring/summer ad.

Chanel have confirmed that punk rock chick, Alice Dellal, is the new face of its Boy Chanel handbag collection. As both model and musician, she is Karl’s perfect Chanel girl. Alice shares my love for nose rings and shaved heads, her and Chanel are a match made in heaven, for me.
